Did you know, there are many different species of “ladybugs”? While they all may look similar, there are almost 6,000 species (that we know of) of what we call ladybugs, or ladybirds. Technically, their neither a bug nor a bird, but rather a member of the beetle family.

Most species of ladybugs are considered as beneficial, as they prey on common garden pests such as aphids and whiteflies. If you spot ladybugs in your garden, then there are most likely pests there they are hunting.
