Garden orb weavers will weave the familiar form of web that consists of concentric circles with radiating lines. There are many species of orb spider and they range in size from 1/8 of an inch up 1-inch. They also vary in color, with some species being brightly colored. Some of the larger species can be quite intimidating, but are generally of no danger to humans.

Their primary residence is outdoors in the garden, where they will consume many garden pests. They generally wait at the edge of their web, or perch on the edge or underside of a leaf, waiting for their pray to “trip” one of their webs.
